The MSPE® Institute invites you to attend a 1-day in-person meditation retreat on Saturday, September 23, 2023 from 8am - 4pm, as part of our expanding training curriculum. It will be held in the heart of downtown Washington, DC, with Metro stops and parking garages nearby. Please note that only 10 seats are available.
This retreat is suggested for people who have had an established mindfulness practice for a minimum of 6 months. Although some explicit connections will be made to the implementation of mindful sport performance enhancement (MSPE), the main focus will be to deepen one’s practice of both mindfulness and meditation, and connections within our growing MSPE community.
The day will include both sedentary practice and mindful movement. It will involve extended meditations of 20-30 minutes, seated stretching/mindful movement, brief readings and opportunities for reflection and discussion, and part of our lunch hour will be reserved for silent mindful eating practice. In addition, this being an MSPE Institute retreat, some of the practices offer unique experiences that move beyond the traditional, including performance-relevant meditations and an opportunity (if you choose) to lead a brief meditation you enjoy. You are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and, although chairs will be provided, are welcome to bring any personal items you would like to use to support your meditation practice (e.g., a cushion). However, you will be asked to keep your phone off and out of sight for the entirety of the day, so please plan accordingly.
Tea, water, and light snacks will be available throughout the day. You can either bring your own lunch (there is a full-size refrigerator available), or we can provide a sandwich or salad of your choice from Panera Bread for an additional $15.
